President Ulysses S. Grant appeared to be a genuine animal lover having had dogs, cats and horses throughout most of his life. During his administration he was known to covet his lovely saddle horse, Cincinatus, given to him as a gift from the people of Cincinnati. Besides himself he only let Abraham Lincoln ride him which he did on occasion. He loved to race his horses with sulkies and on the flat. Here he is seen watching two horses run on the track with President Lincoln. |
