Our founding father was the hero of the dog breeder’s domain in early days having a keen sense of selection of the finest to the finest. One of his favorite mounts was a grey horse named Blueskin which he kept at Mt. Vernon many years. He fore fathered the American Foxhound from the English Foxhound, and kept records on his breedings and his animals which covered dogs, mules, turkeys and other farm animals. On top of that the story, true or not, is that Martha Washington’s parrot was trained to say, “Polly wants a cracker?” and while debated, it is based on fact. |
